About

Zachary Thomas LaVine, born March 10, 1995, is an American professional basketball player for the Sacramento Kings, currently in the NBA after Minnesota selected him 13th overall in the 2014 draft. A two-time Slam Dunk Contest champion, he earned NBA All-Star honors with the Chicago Bulls in 2021 and 2022 and won gold with the U.S. Olympic team at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Raised in the Seattle area, he was honored as Washington state’s top high school player before playing one season at UCLA, where he was named among the Pac-12’s top freshmen before entering the draft.

As a rookie with Minnesota, LaVine won the Slam Dunk Contest and made the NBA All-Rookie Second Team; in 2016 he defended his dunk title, becoming just the fourth player in league history to win consecutive contests. Traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2017, he spent eight seasons there, developing into an All-Star scorer before being traded to Sacramento in 2025.

Born in Renton, a Seattle suburb, to athletic parents, LaVine comes from a sports background, with his father, Paul, having played American football professionally, reflecting a family history of athletic achievement.
