Rodrigo Hernández Cascante (born 22 June 1996), known simply as Rodri or Rodrigo, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Premier League club Manchester City and captains the Spain national team. Widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world, he is known for his passing, composure, playmaking and physical attributes. He is one of eleven players to have won the FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League, and Ballon d’Or in their career, and the only one to win the FIFA World Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA European Championship, UEFA Nations League, UEFA Champions League and the Best Player Award of each tournament.
Rodri began his senior career with Villarreal, progressing through the club’s academy before making his first-team debut in December 2015. In 2018, he joined Atlético Madrid, where he established himself as a promising midfielder and won the UEFA Super Cup in 2018. His performances earned him interest from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. After a single season at Atlético, he signed for City in 2019 for £62.6 million, a then-record fee for a Spanish player.
